How to Cut and Transform Locs to a Taper Fade: Loc Removal Services
Three Year Loc Journey to Taper Fade (Metal 2 Detachable Blade)

Locs, often times, represent years of commitment and can hold sentimental value. If you end up in my chair, you’ve weighed the options and have decided that you’re starting a new journey. The loc removal services/ process is not something to take lightly. Rather than grabbing the nearest pair of scissors or clippers and giving them a swift cut, I detach them as if the clients want to keep them. A lot of my clients want to keep them but if not, my process is still the same. We’re keeping all options open.

Removing Locs and How to Keep them in Tact

To remove the locs, lift the hair and twist in the opposite direction of its’ natural twist. Locate where the hair last locked and cut there. I then store them neatly. For this process, I use Babyliss Gold Clippers. The goal is to keep as many in tact as possible.

Once all of the locs have been removed, the next step is to cut the hair down one guard higher than the desired finish look then wash the hair. The wash process serves several purposes. Allow me to list then explain.

Benefits of washing hair after removing locs:

  • Removes Product Build up
  • Helps the hair revert back to it’s natural curl pattern
  • Minimizes surprises

Often times there will be a build up of hair products where the hair was twisted or retwisted. An in depth wash will of course remove the build up. Regardless of whether or not the hair is visibly dirty, washing it allows you to start the cut on a clean head and reduces the chance of surprises such as unseen dirt, thin spots and more while cutting.

Most importantly, locs can alter the way that the hair wants to lay naturally. Washing it allows the water to revert the hair to it’s natural curl pattern. You can also comb the hair in the direction you would like for it to lay.
